The Next Few Weeks at Running After My Hat…
…are looking a bit complicated from here in the back office. Nothing like a disaster, as far as I know — just several overnight trips each more than a few days long. But it will probably challenge my determination to post a couple times a week.
To prepare for that, I’m trying to get ahead of the calendar by lining up posts a week or two in advance of their actual appearance here.
Nevertheless, don’t be alarmed1 if, say, an installment of 23kpc doesn’t drop as usual late Friday/early Saturday. I’m probably just temporarily entangled — like that Laocoön guy — as I fight to break the grip of a madly thrashing schedule and try not to be strangled.
Paid Subscription Option: The (Squishy) Limits of Charity
Sometime in the next couple weeks, I’ll turn on the option to give paying subscribers some benefits unavailable to free ones. I’m still scratching my head about the details, but I think at first here’s how things will shake out:
If you think you’ll want to see, like, video chats, interviews or guest posts from famous people, etc., you’re not likely to find such amenities here. I know my limits. But I’ll try to come up with something worth paying for (assuming I haven’t already *cough*).
At the same time, please know that I understand the economics of Substack. There will be an option for you to let me know that paying isn’t an option now… and I’ll make it happen, no questions asked.
That’s about all I’ve got for now. Please let me know if any questions or suggestions, of course.
In the meantime, this Friday/Saturday, keep your eyes peeled for the next 23kpc installment: Chapters 15-16 — in which the shadowy outline of a “religion2 favored by starcruising engineers” starts to materialize. (Be still, your beating heart!)
It’s okay to be disappointed!
Or church, or theology, or cult: take your pick.
