I have been meaning to tell you -- possibly to scold you... I suddenly discovered in January that you'd published 'A Brief History of Boyfriends' on Amazon OVER THREE YEARS AGO. Without AFAIK any fanfare at all (even of the most modest sort). I mean, really -- I'd read and loved 'The Blue Jar' but you have *really* leapt beyond that bar with 'Boyfriends.' I don't care if it was ten years between the two books, holy jeez but I went crazy about the latter. So I've been torn between elation and, y'know, shaking a judgey index finger in your direction for not making it more visible, sooner!
'Slow Horses': the books, oh, the books... I'm dying to see Gary Oldman and Kristin Scott Thomas in their respective roles. But in the meantime, I'm only like six books into the series and I'm afraid both of the TV series' getting ahead of me (and possibly being yanked thereafter by Apple TV) AND of falling back on the TV version as an easy out. So, who knows.
Oi. I just...well...back at the time, I couldn't really convince myself that 'Boyfriends' was good enough for fanfare. I know, I know, but ugh. I dunno. I'm ridiculous sometimes. Or often.
The 'Boyfriends' stories are gorgeous. Seriously. Do not even cringe at any praise they elicit. Really, really excellent work, Marta, and I hope you can eventually accept that. This is coming from somebody who reads a LOT, the friendship doesn't NOT count but also doesn't change the esteem in which I hold these stories. Thank you for writing them, and thanks for making them available (even if I had to find them on my own 😉)!
On a quick revisit to this post, I just came across this phrase: "writing wrongs." Possibly a Freudian slip, but who cares... it is EXACTLY the sort of mistake which I don't want to encounter after I've put the 'Webster' and 'Inventions' books on Amazon.
My plan is similar when I finally have my act together long enough to self-publish The Fairytale Asylum. I'll tell people, but marketing? Noooooo.
My husband has been watching Slow Horses. I've heard it is good.
Put those stories out there. Honestly, I have no idea when I'll be able to read them (because my life right now) but put them out there!
